I figured I should introduce myself, but I've yet to find a way to do so that isn't painfully awkward since I'm not really a big fan of talking about myself. Nevertheless, here are some facts and tidbits about me, my family, my life, and whatever else I can think of.
My name is Mariah Hilsenbrand. I'm married to my high school sweetheart and best friend, Nathan Hilsenbrand. We have a little baby Hilsenbrand on the way who should be here right around Christmas. We also have an embarrassing amount of furbaby Hilsenbrand's. (Ok, it's three, but we still should only have, like, one.) Both Nathan and I were born in Wisconsin and we both grew up in Florida. We currently live in Richmond, VA and have been having fun exploring and getting to know our new city.
I've mentioned before that I grew up with a dad who loved to cook and a mom who loved to decorate. This strongly contributed to who I am today and how I like to spend my spare time. I love to cook and bake and think up new recipes. I love starting with practically nothing and ending with a delicious meal (which means I make a lot of breads and soups). It makes me feel like some kind of magical kitchen wizard when Nathan says we have nothing in the fridge and I step in and whip together a five star, from scratch, healthy meal for us.
I also really enjoy decorating and DIY projects. My favorite projects involve thrifted or salvaged finds that I take home, fix up, and turn into something beautiful. I'm all about reusing and re-purposing and I am not above hopping in a dumpster for a cool chair as my husband will attest to. If you see some lady wheeling a rusty, broken bicycle down the road or trying to shove the world's ugliest table into her tiny car, yeah, that's me. Don't worry, not all my projects involve trash. I also dabble in some cooler endeavors like wood burning, fashion-related ventures, painting, and more. I'm constantly looking for ways to challenge myself creatively and bring a little beauty into the world.
That about does it for facts about me. I suppose that wasn't too horrible to write (fingers crossed it wasn't too terrible to read either). Now that you know a little more about who I am, we can get back to the fun decorating and yummy food!
